A single waste movement needs codes from several different lists — one for the waste itself, one for what happens to it at the destination, and more again if it’s hazardous. Every list below is published here in full.

EWC Codes
842 codes
The UK List of Wastes. Identifies what the waste actually is, and whether it's hazardous. Search in plain English or browse by chapter.
Disposal & Recovery Codes
28 codes
Every D and R code used on UK waste paperwork and DEFRA digital waste tracking filings — D1 to D15 for disposal, R1 to R13 for recovery — with DEFRA's own description of each operation.
Hazardous Property Codes
16 codes
All hazardous property codes used to classify UK hazardous waste — HP 1 to HP 15 plus HP POP — with DEFRA's description of the hazard each one denotes.
POP Codes
31 codes
DEFRA's reference list of persistent organic pollutants declarable on a waste movement, with the code to use for each chemical when filing to the digital waste tracking service.
Container Types
16 codes
The container type codes DEFRA's digital waste tracking service accepts — skip, drum, IBC, tanker, roll-on/roll-off and the rest — with the three-letter code for each.
