DEFRA Waste Container Type Codes
Every movement filed to DEFRA's digital waste tracking service records how the waste was contained. The service takes a three-letter code rather than free text, so a skip is SKI and a roll-on/roll-off is ROR. These are the codes it accepts.
All 16 codes below come from DEFRA’s own digital waste tracking reference data, last checked 25 July 2026. This is the same list WTNcloud validates against when it files a movement, so what you see here is what the service accepts.
- BAGBag / Sack (e.g. rubble bag, refuse sack)
- BALBale
- BOXBox / Carton / Crate
- CANCan / Jerrycan
- CARCarrier (e.g. pallet cage)

Filing these codes for real from October 2026?
WTNcloud validates every code against DEFRA’s reference data before a movement is filed, so a rejected submission never reaches your paperwork.
