Frequently asked questions
- Is this free WTN generator really free?
- Yes, completely free. Generate as many WTNs as you need: fill in the note's details, add your email address, and the PDF is sent straight to your inbox. If you write notes every week, the WTNcloud app gives you 20 notes free, with offline use and customer import, then unlimited notes on a paid plan.
- Is the generated WTN legally compliant?
- Yes. The generated PDF includes the mandatory legal declaration under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011, along with your EWC code, waste description, transferor and transferee details, and the duty-of-care statement. Filled in correctly and signed by both parties, it's a valid waste transfer note.
- Do I need to create an account?
- No account is required for the free generator. You only need a valid email address so we can email your finished PDF. We never share your email and you can unsubscribe from any follow-up at any time.
- What is an EWC code and how do I find the right one?
- EWC (European Waste Catalogue) codes are six-digit codes — like 20 03 01 for mixed municipal waste — that classify every type of waste. Our generator includes a searchable dropdown with the full UK List of Wastes. You can browse them by type at wtncloud.co.uk/ewc-codes.
- Can I edit the WTN after I download it?
- The PDF itself is finalised, but you can generate a new one for free by filling the form again. If you need to maintain a record of several WTNs, edit them, or share them with customers, consider a WTNcloud paid plan.
- Does the WTN cover hazardous waste?
- No — hazardous waste in England and Wales needs a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note (HWCN), not a standard WTN. We have a dedicated free HWCN generator for that at /tools/hwcn-generator — same instant-download flow, with the HP code selector, ADR sub-section, premises-code rules and the statutory consignor's certificate built in.
